Sabah scandal videos: Azam mum on forensic results, to summon all

MACC has received the forensics report on the videos related to the Sabah corruption scandal.

However, MACC chief Azam Baki told reporters today that he cannot reveal whether the videos are authentic just yet, saying it would be prejudicial at this juncture.

Instead, Azam said, he has ordered the investigating officers to summon all the individuals related to the videos for another round of questioning.

“If I’m not mistaken, the forensics report was delivered to the investigating officers about a week ago.

“And my order was that they have to summon everyone involved, be it in the video or those behind the camera, to have their statements recorded so we can verify the contents (of the videos).

“I don’t want to comment whether it is authentic or otherwise. What is important now is that we are calling (those involved) for their statements to be recorded,” he told a press conference at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya earlier today.

When pressed further on the forensics report, Azam said he cannot comment “because it will be prejudicial, I need my investigating officers to look into it and then question these people.”

According to Azam, he has given instructions to the case officers to wrap up their investigation within a month and a half.

Within the time frame, they would have to look into the forensics report, he said, and submit their findings to the deputy public prosecutor.

On March 11, a whistleblower identified as Albert surrendered video recordings that showed several Sabah leaders and assemblypersons purportedly involved in separate discussions about alleged bribes linked to a mineral exploration project in the state.

The man had come forward to provide the purported evidence after Azam doubled down on his claim that there was too little evidence in the case implicating several Sabah assemblypersons, including Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.
